Why you should choose Soy Wax

Its Vegan friendly as its plant based wax and not tested on animals.

Typically Soy wax candles last longer than Paraffin for example. Soy wax is slower to burn and burns at a cooler temperature. As such Soy wax candles tend to last longer saving you money in the long run.

They burn cleaner as Soy wax is non-toxic and emits very little black soot.

Soy wax is great at holding scent. It gives you a consistent beautiful fragrance right until the end of your candle.

Sometimes you may notice soy wax has a frosting appearance. Especially on coloured wax. Frosting occurs because the wax naturally forms crystalline structures as it cools and hardens. It is a unique and natural effect of using vegetable waxes. It does not effect the product in anyway.

Another feature that often happens when using soy wax are wet spots. Anytime the temperature changes, candle wax risks pulling away from the side of the container. This can happen during curing, storing and shipping. It is impossible to prevent and does not impact the performance of the candle.

Candle Care Tips

Following these tips will help you to get the most out of your Little Book Candle.

  • Avoid excessive burn time, no more than 4 hours is recommended.
  • Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable objects.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Trim the wick to 1/4 inch or 5mm tall before every burn to keep the wax clean and burning nicely.
  • On the first burn allow the candle to burn all the way to the edge of the container or for 4 hours.
  • Burn your candle away from windows, doors and drafts.
  • Stop burning your candle when only 10mm (1cm) of wax is left.
  • Store candles in a cool, dark place.

How long will my candle burn?

220g (30cl) candle  - 40-45 hours

80g Candle Tin - -16-20 hours

Tealights small 15g 3-4 hours

Please note all times are approximate.

The Importance of Wick Trimming

A candle's wick plays a significant role, not only in the lighting of your candle to release the aroma, but also the life cycle of your candle.

The two main reasons why you should trim the wick are -

To prevent soot.

As the flame burns the candle wax it is turned into odourless carbon dioxide and water vapour. If the wick is too long, the flame will be bigger and will perform incomplete combustion. As such it will begin to produce soot. While a small amount of soot in a candle is perfectly normal leaving the wick too long will create too much.

To make your candle last longer.

The longer the wick, the bigger the flame. As such by not trimming the wick your candle will burn at a faster rate thus making the candle's life cycle shorter. Trimming the wick will prevent this meaning you will enjoy your candles beautiful fragrance for longer and it will save you money.

Trimming the wick

After extinguishing your candle wait for at least 2 hours for it to cool before trimming the wick. You can use scissors or a specialised wick trimmer to trim the wick. Trim to 1/8 inch (3 mm) after every burn. Tealights have shorter wicks so do not need to be trimmed.
